Plymouth
A new build, 41 chair dental teaching facility which provides shared space for medical students. The building houses teaching spaces, seminar rooms, common rooms and changing facilities.
The school was procured by the University of Plymouth with Primary Care Services being delivered by the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry. The Building was completed in 2011 and has been operating since, with an extension planned for delivery in 2020.
Airey and Coles were appointed as civil and structural Consulting Engineers and provided a full suite of design services covering the building, substructures, drainage and external works.
Particular features on the scheme included a reinforced concrete frame with two way spanning flat slabs, 5m high retaining walls, incorporation of a green roof, large cantilever overhang over front entrance, sustainable drainage systems and precast concrete architectural external retaining walls.
