Sam Hore
After leaving school Sam spent the next few years travelling the world before discovering that a career of working behind a beachside bar wasn’t as idealistic as he had first thought. Upon returning to the UK in 2018, Sam joined Airey & Coles as a Trainee Structural Technician and completed his Foundation Degree in Civil Engineering, achieving a Distinction. He is now continuing his training as a Degree Apprentice through the University of Plymouth, spending one day per week studying for a full Bachelors Degree alongside his work commitments.
Sam has already developed a wealth of knowledge and experience across both the structures and infrastructure sectors, having worked on projects ranging from individual “Grand Design” style houses all the way up to large steel-frame and concrete-frame healthcare and educational facilities. Sam has an eye for detail and precision, evidenced in the quality of his drafting, and possesses a keen personal interest in sustainable construction and efficient design. He has been heavily involved in some of Airey & Coles’ low carbon projects and is well-versed in the calculation of structural embodied carbon and methods to reduce it.
Sam is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a registered Engineering Technician (EngTech) with the Engineering Council. In his spare time, he can typically be found honing his skills on the golf course or cheering on the mighty Plymouth Argyle.
